Étude APEPSGuad : niveau d’activité physique et de sédentarité des adultes en situation de précarité consultant dans les centres d’examens de santé de Guadeloupe

Abstract : Introduction : Increased physical activity and the decrease in a sedentary lifestyle are the major health issues that would make it possible to fight many of the pathologies to which the citizens of Guadeloupe are particularly exposed. Since these behaviors have yet to be assessed, it was the objective of this study to do so. Material and method :This is an observational and cross sectional study of a sample of 512 adults presenting at the Abymes or Basse-Terre exam centers. The data was collected using questionnaires that the individuals filled out on their own. The resulting IPAQ scores were used to assess their level of physical activity, as well as their individual sedentary lifestyles. They were also provided information on sporting activities and evaluated the use of secured fitness trail (P3S). Results : In Guadeloupe, 58.6% of adults in precarious situations assessed had a physical activity favorable to good health. A lesser sampling of 41.4% had a level lower than recommended. There were 54.9% of the individuals tested that had a moderate level of sedentary activity, spending 3-7 hours sitting per day; while 19.8% had a high level of more than 7 hours per day. Almost half of the participants (49.7%) reported participating in sports. There were 86.4% of tested individuals that knew about P3S, but only 27.4% used it. Inactive participants had a profile of being young, obese, perceiving their health to be less good, and being more sedentary than the other tested individuals. Women were less likely to engage in physical activity and they had less participation in sports. Conclusion :The level of physical activity in the tested adults of Guadeloupe is close to that observed in the general population. The sedentary lifestyle appears to be lower except for young people. Public health actions must be pursued to support access to sports, promote P3S and the prescription of sports, in order to optimize the prevention of health problems among the citizens of Guadeloupe.
