Poétique du réalisme magique dans The Ventriloquist's Tale de Pauline Melville : de la liminalité à la complexité

Abstract : Spanning the 20th century, Pauline Melville’s saga of an Anglo-Amerindian family of Guyana probes into the devastating effects of colonisation. Pauline Melvilles’s own hybridity, reflecting that of her country, finds ‘magic realism’ as the adequate means of rendering the complexity of entertwined imaginary discourses. The paper focuses on the technical strategies implemented in order to transmogrify a ruthless, highly documented indictment of colonisation into a powerful tribute to an endangered view of the universe that regards man as part and parcel of the cosmos.
