L’enseignement de la biologie en français en contexte plurilingue algérien : quelles langues ? Pour quelles fonctions ?

Abstract : The current contribution attempts to describe the teaching practices in the Algerian University where French language is supposed to be used as the only and unique vehicle of knowledge in the scientific and technical courses. Through recording a biology tutorial session, we try to identify the functions of code-switching in the teacher’s discourse. Indeed, some teachers transpose the language practices of social life in their classrooms. Is that a choice to facilitate entry or headword to cognitive content or is it a simple discursive habit?
