Abstract : During the year 2018, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Brazil faced electoral contests to renew their presidencies. Consequently, continuities or changes in outgoing ruling parties and traditional forms of power play were called into question. This article analyzes, relying on comparison of historically dense cases, campaigns characteristics and peculiarities of electoral outcomes, as well as continuities and breakings implied in the victories of Iván Duque Márquez in Colombia, Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Mexico, Mario “Marito” Abdo Benítez in Paraguay and Jair Messias Bolsonaro in Brazil, for the immediate future of politics in these countries.
