Résumé
This poster presents the main results of the project “From the port reality to the dream port: evolution of port and maritime works of Pointe-à-Pitre”, labeled under the Labex DRIIHM AAP 2018 in the frame of the OHM Littoral Caraïbe.
The project aimed to reconstitute the Pointe-à-Pitre port's trajectory, based on a documentary research on port development and equipment plans. It resulted in the collection of documentary and iconographic data, as well as the production of original geographical information on the history and functions of the port buildings. These data were integrated into the Labex DRIIHM Spatial data infrastructure. They were valued in two forms: A Timeline, intended to become a collaborative tool on the history of the port, its relations with the city of Pointe-à-Pitre, and the environment of the Petit Cul-de-sac Marin; a Story Map which will be integrated in the webpage of the OHM Littoral Caraïbe to promote the public dissemination of these results.
The poster focuses on the extension project of Jarry Point container terminal, in relation with the evolution of marine traffic in the Caribbean and the recent widening of the Panama Canal. It compares the plan conceived in the 1970s with the current developments, and the project planned for the next few years. This comparison shows that, without reaching a utopian dimension, the port extension had to adapt to different global and local constraints. The analysis of these constraints and their effects on the port project may be an interesting prospect for the continuation of this work.
Ce poster est destiné à présenter certains résultats du projet De la réalité portuaire au port rêvé : évolution des travaux maritimes et portuaires du port de Pointe-à-Pitre, labellisé par le Labex DRIIHM dans le cadre de l’AAP 2018 au titre de l’OHM Littoral Caraïbe.
Le projet ambitionnait de reconstituer la trajectoire portuaire de Pointe-à-Pitre, à partir d’une recherche documentaire portant sur les projets d’aménagement et d’équipement du port. Il a abouti à la collecte de données documentaires et iconographiques, ainsi qu’à la production d’une information géographique inédite sur l’histoire et la destination des bâtiments du port de Guadeloupe. Ces données ont été intégrées à l’IDS du Labex DRIIHM, puis valorisées sous forme : d’une frise chronologique (Timeline), destinée à devenir un outil collaboratif sur l’histoire du port et de ses relations avec la ville de Pointe-à-Pitre, et avec l’environnement du Petit Cul-de-Sac marin ; et sous forme d’une cartographie narrative (Story Map) destinée à s’intégrer à la page web de l’OHM Littoral Caraïbe, pour favoriser une large diffusion publique des résultats.
Le poster revient sur le projet d’extension du terminal à conteneurs de la Pointe Jarry, en lien avec l’évolution du trafic maritime dans les Caraïbes et l’élargissement récent du canal de Panama. Il compare le plan conçu dès les années 1970 avec les aménagements réalisés actuellement, et le projet programmé pour les prochaines années. Cette comparaison montre que, sans atteindre une dimension utopique, le projet d’extension portuaire a dû s’adapter à différentes contraintes globales et locales pour prendre sa forme actuelle. L’analyse de ces contraintes et de leurs effets sur le projet portuaire pourra constituer une perspective intéressante pour la suite de ces travaux.
