L’enseignement du Français en Guadeloupe : réflexion pour une pédagogie adaptée à la diglossie Créole/Français. Analyses de productions orales et écrites et incidences sur les plans pédagogique et didactique

Abstract : Guadeloupe is a French overseas region where diglossia is particularly problematic in terms of the drafting of a suitable curriculum for the teaching of French. Feedback from written and oral sessions held at first in a school in southern Basse-Terre are aimed at offering solutions to establish a suitable teaching method – whilst taking into account the linguistic background of the pupils, in accordance with the curriculum objectives as defined by the French Education Ministry. As a result, certain characteristics of oral French would be highlighted as used by speakers coming from an environment that is both socially and culturally challenged. Furthermore, certain forms that do not conform to written French rules as learnt at school would be targeted. The conclusions to be drawn from such observations are that the difficulties encountered by speakers are more as a result of the switch from oral to written language – thus stressing the need for pupils to be sensitised to the specific nature of certain aspects of the target language in order to make it easier for them to assimilate and acquire it.
